Evangelize, Educate, Equip, Empower, Encourage
As a ministry leader, I believe it
is important to evangelize the lost and to educate believers as instructed in Matthew 28:18-20. This
involves 1) sharing the Gospel with those who do not yet trust in Jesus Christ, and 2) teaching the Bible to Christians
in a relevant and spiritually formative way.
Helping believers
discover their spiritual gift or gifts, equipping them to use them, and empowering them by giving them permission
to use their gifts are critical tasks necessary for the building up of the body (see Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31;
Ephesians 4:11-13; 1 Peter 4:10-11).
Finally, encouraging the believers in one's care is
a key service provided by the leader.
One need
only observe Jesus' interaction with the Disciples (or Paul's relationship with Timothy) to observe this pattern. Thus,
Jesus remains the focal point as well as the example in ministry.
Following Jesus' lead and depending
on the Holy Spirit, I gently and lovingly use my spiritual gifts to teach the Bible and to equip others to use their gifts
for the benefit of the body and the glory of God.
